Lots of drivers and applications are compressed before installation. Normally the file name end with a underline. Before installation, the file name could be abcdef.sy_. After the installation, the file was expanded and renamed to abcdef.sys

I know MS OS come with a utility call EXPAND that can un-compress XXX.XX_

How do I compress the file again from XXX.XXX back to XXX.XX_

TIA

If you compress the files installed into a Windows system folder they won't run any more.

If you mean the install files you unzipped to something like c:\temp you can just delete those when you've finished the install, and keep the zip or exe the files came from if you ever need to install again.

Here is the scenario:

There is a file - xyz.sy_, this file is part of A program installation files. I un-compress the xyz.sy_ and get xyz.sys
Then I HEX edit the xyz.sys How do I compress the modified xyz.sys back to xyz.sy_
So I can get A program to install using the modified xyz.sys

Oh, you're building a trojan or hacked warez? AT isn't really the place to discuss that, it's a warez-free zone.

What's wrong with you? Why do you have to think of the evil side of other's intension?

I am doing an ATi 9500 to 9700 softmod. Ater using the RivaTurner script to patch the ati2mtag.sys, I want to get it back to the ati2mtag.sy_ so I can clean install it. I believe the question I asked doesn't solicit this kind of response.
