okay, so last week it was TAT and Asus Probe showing the same temps, while coretemp is about 10c off, well it seems now that coretemp and asus probe are the same but TAT is 16c higher! This is driving me nuts! im showing 66c load temps on TAT

Core Temp reads from the DTS (Digital Temperature Sensor) on the CPU. The DTS reports the highest temperature of several on-die probe sites.

I don't know about TAT, but I thought Asus Probe read from an LM motherboard sensor. I would have thought that TAT read off the on-die CPU sensor also.

It's possible there's a bug in Core Temp where it thinks your Tjmax is 85C instead of 100C (the case for some C2D models). I would trust Intel TAT in this case. Intel repeatedly refuses to disclose the information on how to properly read the DTS so I'll have to assume that their in-house program is the most reliable. The true ceiling number from which a reported value is subtracted is an arbitrary value that varies per CPU unit. It can only be estimated at 85 or 100 for certain revisions of the C2D, although I was thinking TAT unearthed some hidden MSR (machine-specific register) where the true value is stored. This could all be wrong if TAT reads off the LM sensor, though I couldn't find much info on it either way. If TAT thought your max temp was 100C and Core Temp thought it was 85C, that could explain the ~16C discrepancy.

Maybe I should reinstall TAT, I had installed some intel MB drivers last night to update my USB ports and had switched to a new case with better airflow, I dont think the heatsink was somehow bumped because I checked last night and it was secure. I replaced a Tt 54cfm 120mm fan, with two aerocool 90cfm 120mm fans, they blow much more air and the air coming out isnt that hot at all, faulty sensor?
