Hello,
here's my deal...Very frustrated. I have an:
Athlon 600-K7m Asus board
Leadtek Gforce256 DDR
640mg of pc133 ram

It is NOT compatible at all with XP. I have had to deal with the "Infinite Loop"(so they call it) error that spontaneous reboots all the time....I am wondering if the conflict has to do with my vid card/my processor or Mboard?

Anywho, I am looking into replacing my MBoard/Processor...I am looking to find something that is not as finicky with the type of ram you use...I have had to deal with that with my Atlon system!! :disgust:

Can you reccomend something that would cost ~250 & use my current components? I would probably prefer Intel at this time & I have always liked the ABIT & ASUS Mboards....and... Can I expect this will work with XP?

Thanks!,
Ross

The infinite loop error seems mainly to correspond with the 23.11 drivers from nvidia. The last official 21.83 before that are the ones you should use, though many have worked great with the unnoficial 22.80. There is also a new 23.12 but I don't know if they fixed that problem or not. Personally I would suggest doing a full upgrade. Obviously you don't want to spend much, but you could get a nice kt266a board, Athlon XP 1700+ and 256 megs ddr ram for alittle over $300. You could even go with the cheap ECS board that supports ddr and regular sdram. Then save up for the ddr and buy later, not to mention get at least a geforce2 or a new value geforce4 (nv17). They are really cheap right now (even the cheapo G4's) If you go Intel you will probably end up paying more. Heck you could get a Duron if you want to.

Well I have the A7V266-E and I experiment the infinite loop some times, so, its a detonator XP bug, not mobo related. Perhaps somebody at nVidia don't like the mix gforce/VIA and prefers gForce/nForce. Don't forget that previous Detonators drivers were working ok, and the Detonators XP bring the problems on. For example, my previous machinne, with an A7V133 were working Rock solid with Detonator 3 and Win98SE, but after I updated to Detonator XP, things never were as stable.

ASUS A7V266-E
Athlon 1.2b @ 1266Mhz
512Mb DDR PC2100 (unbranded)
RAID 0 on 2xIBM Desktars 15gb
CL Anihilator II (gForce 2 GTS 32mb DDR)
Cl Live! Platinium
