You need most of these processes.

I don't recognize hidsvc.exe, regsvc.exe, stisvc.exe, vsmon.exe, minilong.exe, point32.exe, or loadqm.exe.

System Idle, System, smss, scrss, winlogon are all parts of the "base OS."
Services and svchost are container processes in which services run.
Spoolsv is the print spooler.
Taskmgr is, of course, the task manager.
iexplore is Internet Explorer.
explorer is the desktop shell.

Yes, it is common to have 2 svchost processes running.

You should be able to shut down stisvc.exe; this is the Still Image Service Monitor...it is used by your (USB) scanner or camera. You can either shut it down completely or switch it over to manual under the Services Administration applet.

Thx I'll set it to manual. Does it shut off after I use my scanner or does it stay on?

Normally it stays on. You can simply shut it off again after you have used your scanner.

Just be carefull what services you might shut off. You will be an unhappy camper when you reboot and find you can no longer access win2k because your password is not recognized.. :(
