What process do you go through when overclocking your video card?

I only ask this because I'm having some strange things happen when I'm pushing my BFG6800OC. I've already unlocked the pipes and shader and they work without issue. I started pushing my memory and reached 860 before I got a lock (no artifacts). I then decide to start pushing my GPU, so I start with 360, 10mhz more than stock. The instant I click apply, the system locks up. I'm unable to push the GPU at all with the memory turned up. If I back the memory down to 790, I'm able to run the GPU @ 365. Temps are low all around (I'm using an NV Silencer 5) in the 50s under load, and mid 40s idle. I'm running the 71.20 beta drivers right now, as the previous 61.77s were extremely slow.
