Just wondering what printer is considered the best for the money.
It will be used mainly for my son's college work, but I would also like to be able to print pictures made with my digital camera.

Thanks,

U can either go with the new Stylus C80...

Or go with one of the Canon's S series...

Since both of them have separate ink cartridges the TCO (this one is cortesy of Microsoft's vapourware specialists) is lower than other printers.

yeah... i second that.
for these printers... you should really look at the availability of OEM ink cartridges.
if they are not available for your printer of choice... then, i'd suggest you look elsewhere.

printers cost is not as big as the cartridge costs.

do some research

Over a four years period, a laser B&W printer will be much cheaper than any inkjet for college works.

I suggest to buy a b&w laser, especially the brother 1440 $200 deal,
and use online photo printing service, it costs a lot to use inkjet to print photo.

For college, you'll be printing a lot. For that reason it'd probably be best in the
long run to get a laser printer to act as the text workhorse and get a photo ink
jet printer for your photo jobs. When it comes to plain text, the cost per page
of ink can be more than THREE times higher than laser in some cases! Those
print jobs that are dozens of pages long over a few years will put a hurtin'
on your wallet.

The laser printers are usually much faster than the inkjet ones and the ink dries instantly and will not smear.

If cost is a concern, get a used HP laserjet from a reputable dealer who specializes in refurblished printer. You can get third party toner cartridge for HP printer at half the retail price, $40-50 instead of $80-100. Even a 300 or 600 dpi laser looks better than most inkjet in B&W or half tone pictures.

Most college students I know prefer laser over inkjet for school work.

I would either suggest the Hp 990Cxi or the 970Cxi. Both are awesome printers
and the photo quality is great. The 990 can also turn the page over automaticaly
so you can print on both sides.
