How do I know if a power supply will work with an AMD Athlon XP 2700+
I've had issues in the past with power supplies and I would like to avoid ruining a $350 chip.

Thanks.

As long as you're powering it with a good quality ATX power supply, you should be fine. I recommend at least a 300w Antec.

AMD recommends one that can provide a minimum of 30 amps on the 5-volt line and 180 watts or better combined on the 3.3 and 5-volt lines.

There should be a label on your current one that shows what it can do.

I'd recommend the Antec TruePower series too. Have used Enermax and Sparkle too that are good. Can't go wrong with any of these.

I love Enermax PSUs. In fact, from my observations, I thought that I liked what the Enermax could do even more than what the Antec could do.

But, really, it doesn't matter as long as you get a decent PSU. Enermax, Antec, Sparkle, PC Power and Cooling, etc.
