I'm finally setting up my chenbro net server and, as I'm sure many of you know, I'm going to need some extra long cables for my IDE hard drives.
I've read some old posts and done a little looking on the net, and people seem to have this perception that cables longer than the 18" spec can cause problems, but nobody has any specifics.
What I guess I'm wondering is - what problems should I expect / prepare for? Just a loss of speed / performance? I could live with this, but if there was a good chance that data could be lost or corrupted, then that's another thing. Anybody actually KNOW (not just a guess)?
What about cables rounded at this distance (say 36"😉? Any additional problems?
Anyway, next question I guess is where to buy these? I know pccables.com has some 36" cables - both the normal and rounded ones. I'd really prefer the rounded ones because unfortunately the motherboard connector is right in front of the fan on this case, but again, data integrity is a concern here. I'm leaning towards the rounded ones if the 23" first leg can reach the drives...
Any input appreciated as usual...
