What places are you confident of your expectations because you're paying more compared to the competition?

Not Quiznos?

I'm a Ferrengi. i rather go for best bang for the buck.

McD's double cheeseburger, making coffee at home, Holiday Inn, manmade diamond (flawless 1 carat for $3k), cell phone to tell time, Fry's Electronics

Paying Extra FTL?!

What places meet the expectations of the extra $ you're paying for? (compared to the competition)

Quiznos' = Yes
Starbucks = I pay more, but I only step foot into a Starbucks when its the only coffee availible ATM. Otherwise I'll hunt down something cheaper.
Ritz Carlton = Nope, Holiday Inn, Mariott, etc. FTW
Rolex = Nope, Timex FTW
Alienware = Nope, home made

All in all, its only worth paying more for when its worth it, like Quiznos' :p.

Quiznos makes awsome subs and is worth paying the $2 or so over subway.

I'm confident my Corolla is better than a Cavalier :)

Other examples of when its worth paying for more

Logitech input devices
Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and other badass brands of recordable media
Good luggage, like Samsonite etc.
APC battery backups
Shure headphones
Linksys networking equipment
Cingular vs. T-Mobile (a.k.a. actually having service vs. being able to use it alot but not having it)

The list goes on, there's alot of stuff that's more expensive and worth it.

Lou Malnati's ... I pay a LOT more for a good chicago style pizza over the crap that Pizza hut or Domino's sells. (though the competition doesn't really compare)
I pay a LOT more for premium Belgian Beers over stuff like Natty Ice and Budweiser. (Again, the competition doesn't really compare)
I'd rather spend $30 for a bottle of Jadwiga than $10 for a bottle of Chaucers when it comes to Mead. (Chaucers is good, but Jadwiga is OMGWTFBBQ Good)
I spend more on Captain Morgan's Private Stock vs other Rum because it's better.

I believe in "bang for the buck" don't get me wrong, but when qualiy is involved, I prefer to get what's good over what's cheap.

For stuff you plan on keeping, go for quality. For things that get used up, go for bang for the buck.

Exactly. I didn't blink an eye when I was considering buying martial arts uniforms that cost over $200.00 nor will I when I buy my Motorcycle helmet.

Paying more for trendy stuff is for people that like to say they have spent more which does not interest me in the least. I have no one to impress. I am a deal seeker. Getting something for cheaper than normal is fun, paying more to you can say you did is stupid.

Paying more to say you did (Alienware, Sony, etc.) is stupid, but paying more to get a product that is actually better, and not just wildly popular or trendy, is a smart move.

Costco. especially electronics.

I don't mind paying a bit more + tax compared to online but anything goes wrong they'll take it back.

Oh Thinkpad notebooks.

dell, sony, apple, everyone doesn't even compare in quality.

I dunno about the lenovo designed ones though.

I have come to realize over the years that the difference between a $60/night motel and a $300/night hotel is worth it.

Simply because the $300/night hotel will go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. This often includes providing many things for free like cooked breakfast, bikes, happy hour, transportation, etc.

Plus I can never sleep in $60/night motels when the damn 21-year old kids get in at 4am and wake everyone up. Oh yeah and the more expensive hotels are better for the romance.

The only exception is Vegas since I only spend about 3 or 4 hours a day/night at the hotel.

some brands are worth it, others arent. anyone that avoids popular brands just because they are popular are just as foolish as the one that buys them because they are.

bang for the buck is not always no name crap
