What performance difference will I see going from 1 gig to 2gig of ram in pentium 4 (dual channel)

I do alot of video editing and that....

Will games load faster and run smoother?

What will I see?

Has anyone got 2 gig of pc3200 ram?

Are you having problems with only having 1 gig? If you aren't using all the RAM you have right now adding more won't help. If you are hitting the page file hard now more RAM will help.

i think the bigeest gain comes from 256 or less to 512 and then another (smaller) gain from 512 to a gig, i would think that the gain from 1 gig to 2 gigs is fairly minimal

im thinking about in far cry and battlefield 1942 would I be better with more than 1 gig of ram

if the game consumes more than a gig, i would think it would be for short periods of time and not sustained

I think 2gigs of RAM is ridiculous - not to mention how much it would cost.

My next computer will have no less than 4 gigs


Of course, that will probably be standard in 2 years.

I have to get my 2x 512mb replaced with 1x 1 gig and thought I would get another 1 gig as well. Going for the exchange to 1 gig sticks for more room in adding ram in the future

If you have the money go for it. But I don't know any game that will need more than 1 gig. If you have a bunch of stuff open while you are playing the game it might come into play.

For video editing, you need to be a little more specific. Load up your most CPU intensive filter chain, and then use the control planel to see how much memory your using. If it's more then a gig - upgrade. If it's less then a gig - don't bother. You will see 0 difference in games.
