to take a new job in another state.

Assuming you are okay with where you live now but you like where the new job is located.

Too many unknown variables that will vary by person. For instance, for me....it would have to be 100% because I live in a low cost of living area and my house is paid off. I would essentially have to start over. Not likely to happen.

The biggest consideration would be the cost of living where you are now versus the cost of living where you would be moving.

You make it sound like you would be living in a more desirable area with the new job, so market value with relocation assistance. You can always find another job in that same area later on if the one you take doesn't end up working out.

Living on $150K here is stupidly amazing.

Cost of living is almost exactly the same.

Saying "too many variables" is an understatement.

Are you single, married, have a family, do you live near other family or parents, weather, crime, traffic, etc., etc.. Someone else putting a number on that is totally meaningless.

It depends on the cost of living of the new place. If is is NYC or CA,coastal then a lot more money than other places such as NC or KS.

I read that $100K in NYC is about $50K around here (Southern US).

Single
Currently live near parents and pretty much entire family.
New location has MUCH less crime.
Traffic is probably similar, maybe slightly better in new location.
Weather at current location is worse in summer, but better in winter.
New location has %eleventy better outdoor activities.

I'd probably need about 20k more to take a new position locally. I probably wouldn't move unless the pay was something double or triple. It's just not worth the hassle and additional work at this point in my life.

Depends on the state and how far away.

Things are incredible right now so it would have to be an obscene raise to consider it.

Depends on relative cost of living and how much I want to move to the area. I don't have a lot of ties where I am since I'm a transplant already.

If relocation was covered, I preferred the new area, and the cost of living was equal - I'd make a change with nearly no raise necessary (eg I would have moved from LA to Denver or Seattle with no raise).

To move to an area I didn't really want to live in, I'd have to take a 15-20% pay increase and/or COL decrease.

Eg I relocated from LA to Houston but took a 18% pay increase and a huge COL decrease.

lol my 1st thought was a COL decrease moving from Louisiana o_O.....

:D
Could always move to Montana, willing to bet COL is pretty cheap there!

I live in the place I always wanted to live, and have a pretty damn chill lifestyle, so it would have to be a lot, like 200% or something stupid, and to an equally nice area. Like some super hot rich chick asking me to move with her to Switzerland and never work again... maybe then.
