Now its that time, I need a gaming rig and I've gotta get one soon!! So which one?

DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard £79.95

OR...

G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit £106.95
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £104.95

HIS ATI Radeon X1900 XT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £194.95

Total cost is £730.62 including vat...

Ummm.... What to do? I dont know anything much about the intel system, so please if the DDR and the motherboard isnt all ideal, please tell me know!!

Either one is more than enough processor, unless you like gaming at low resolutions. Of course, since they aren't price gouging in the UK, I'd go with the C2D setup. I'd just buy PC8000 RAM; it isn't much more expensive.

The memory I was looking at was £320 for PC8000!! That's nearly double the price!!

I'd be gaming at 1280x1024 as it the top res of my TFT monitor... Is the Intel motherboard any good? I've no idea what best on that platform...

Get the 2nd system but get the Intel 6300/6400 instead, its around GBP125-150 and its still faster than than the AMD 4400+.

I would look up reviews on the mb to see if it is compatible with the memory.

I was thinking about this system:

HIS ATI Radeon X1900 XT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £194.95
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ 2.40GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail£141.95
Abit KN9 Ultra nForce 570 Ultra (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £74.95
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC5400 Dual Channel Gold GX XTC Series EL-DDR2 £129.95
Samsung SM-920N 19" LCD Monitor - Silver/Black £134.95
Logitech Cordless Optical Desktop Rechargeable Black/Silver £29.95

Total £830.38

Whatever I do buy I will have a major speed up from my XP1600 that I'm currently using for the internet and emails..
As I'm not 100% sure on the memory or the motherboards to buy with an Intel Platform, maybe AMD would be best overall...

Is searching or sending an email to the tech support of intel/gigabyte too difficult?
Also if you don't realise that the Conroe is alot faster and runs cooler its time you looked it up.

Not really too hard at all, but its nice to know people opinions and real life stories. Its fine reading the reviews, but its not real life as its all done in a 'test situation'...

I do realise that the conroe is faster and cooler, but its nice to get and give options that I feel are open to me.

Plus as I have no idea on Intel hardware, I like to get other peoples opinions...

Some people have problems with memory on conroe systems because the motherboard does not support the operating voltage. Search the mb forum.
