I kid you not, an employee at Best Buy tried to tell me how much money they lose on Black Friday, he said it wish such conviction that it was sickening.

I just agreed with the poor sap because it was to fvcked up on many levels to hear this out of this low waged moron.

All of the special deals they have, they lose money on. Not necessarily a lot, but they do. That's why they're called "Loss Leaders", as in something they take a loss on, to lead people into their store.

Then they see all of the little things not advertised (that are marked up 300%), and all of the batteries and cables they need to make their purchases work, and all of the other awesome stuff that they end up buying, and the day comes out ahead profit wise.

Is this employee someone you know? Or were you actually in a Best Buy? Did you feel a burning sensation around your feet?

It wouldn't suprise me to find out that they just break even on all their products and make their profit solely on extended service contracts. Of course, their business model might be centered around monster cables and bose sales too.

Restaurants do it all the time, they sell food at cost and make money on liquior.

That reminds me of this time my friend bought an LCD. It had DVI written all over the box(no seriously, it did), and it didn't even come with a DVI cable. It was Viewsonic too! Cost him $80 for the cable.

Now, could you tie this into the topic title, so this thread makes some kind of sense?
