What other Burners are Liteons in disguise!

I am currently ordering my PC from NEWEGG and I went to pick the Liteon 48x retail for 54.99 (its white) and they have none in stock

Yet i heard there are a few companies that sell liteons under a different name.

I ask b/c I want to flash the firmware from a 48x to a 52x

Any help?

Yep...and add Pine to the list. Pretty much everything that isn't a household name making burners has a good chance to be a Lite-On (Samsung, Sony, HP, etc.)

"Memorex/Buslink thats the 2 i know"

Memorex are not all LiteOn. A friend bought a 40x. It showed a LiteOn in the manual and all, but the actual drive is an AOpen, which is not the same.

Do you have a local staples nearby?? They're selling Memorex 48x24x48x for 29.99 out the door. Chances are it's OOS but it's worth a try.

Same thing with Buslink. I just bought one from BB, and it wasn't a Lite-on. The difference is evident from the box tho. The lite-ons say "Smart-Burn" and the others say something like exact-link, just-link. But to the best of my knowledge all buslinks that say smart-burn on the box are lite-ons, I could be wrong tho.

Dell has retail-packaged Lite-On's way cheaper. Down to $38 shipped no rebate for the 48x.

Really, are you going to notice the 10 seconds less that it'll burn in

The best thing to look for speed wise is 24x RW, the LiteOns only have 12x (maybe 16x) i think.
