what OS for PC video editing?

Hello everyone,

In the next few days ill be ordering a new quad core PC to build with a friend of mine that we will be using to edit AVCHD files off the Panasonic AG-HMC150 camera I just got. So we will probably be running Vegas or premiere. One question I have left is what OS do I want to use? Some say XP64 is more stable, vista64 is better for multimedia, and some say to just use the windows 7 trial until that is released.

I will probably just keep this new PC as only an editing station with a few infrequent visits to the net to grab drivers or fix technical problems. But will keep gaming on my other PC. Ill probably be running a RAID 1 on two 1tb hard drives for video file storage and a raid 0 on a separate pair of drives for the OS and applications in case this makes any difference.

im sure im leaving out some things people would like to take into consideration before they can make a recommendation so just let me know.

Thanks!

XP64 was more or less a test-run release of the x64 codebase. It was never well supported by hardware manufacturers and developers, so drivers can be hard to get, and any bugs in 3rd party software that occur on the platform would likely not be addressed.

I dunno, maybe it's just me...

I've been making videos for 2-3 years now, and I'm currently using Avidemux via Linux Mint x86_64. Works for me!

Here's an example (if you have a fast connection): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5XAEl9dd_s (click the HD button)

I think the res looks damn skippy for YouTube! It's a huge &^%$ing .flv file!

I guess it depends on what you're doing...

Got any samples of your work?
