What OS for gaming between WinME & Win2k for on-line gaming?

I am in the midst of purchasing a new computer, and have the choices between 2 operating systems, being WinME and Win2k Pro. Mostly, what the computer will be used for is surfing the internet about 40% of the time, on-line gaming (either Diablo 2 or pogo.com or zone.com) about 45% of the time, and doing bills and MS-Office-type stuff the other 5%. It's a home office setup.

I have used Win98, and the machine I am currently on has been upgraded (?) to WinME about a year ago, give or take. I have experienced many many BSOD during that year. I discovered a program called TweakAll 2.0 about 6 months ago that reclaims memory, and it has been a blessing, big time. Just point and click and it's about the equivalent of restarting the pc.

I don't really hard-core game, like Quake or Serious Sam, but with Diablo it's nice to have the frame rates up there along with a low ping rate, along the lines of a 100. I read somewhere that because all the drivers run through the OS that it can slow gaming down in Win2K. Is this really an issue? I'd like to hear from some folks that have played games such as this, and their experiences with them.

Thanks in advance...
