Its a split between WinME and Window 2000
I've have an old CTX laptop with K6-3 333mhz.
Window 2000 is a bit slower, but more stable. However, the laptop's Videocard Neomagic[
doesn't support FULL-SCREEN VIDEO OVERLAY in its Window 2000 driver.
So watching DVD have that annoying Window Borders.
The WinME was quite a bit faster on my systerm*
[* provided you find an utility to turn off the System Restore ]
It boots up almost instantly - in my opinion - this old Win9X is less stressful on the older system.
Futhermore, Neomagic videocard is fully supported by WinME. So I can watch FULL-SCREEN
DVD Smoothly. Many laptops [ IBM 600X, IBM 360/370/380X, Compaq, etc...] ues the stupid
Neomagic. This was the dominate laptop video card before ATI and nVidia got into the game.
Something to think about if DVD is important to you.
My old laptop definitely respond a bit faster with WinME > Win98se > Win2000.
Howeve, all Win9X keep the CPU on FULL THROTTLE all the time, and the laptop fan
kicks in constantly. Where as the Window2000, NT, WinXP - only uses as much CPU
as needed, and the FAN rarely kicks in.
