What original FPS game in it's series has the most 'value' over its sequels?

I don't have much experience with the originals, but which one do you think still has the most appeal and enjoyment over its series of sequels? I'll go with Doom since it was really revolutionizing and crap, plus 2 and 3 weren't all that good.

unreal tournament

i loved the orginal
hated 2003
2004 is similar to 2003 (but I have not played it much)

Doom. Even though it sucked, Doom 3 was even worse. Quake's sequels were just as bad however and Unreal Tournament 2004 is better than the original.
