P4 1.6A @ 2.1 (133/533 fsb), ASUS p4s533, 4x 7200rpm hdd, 2x optical drives, 1x radeon 9500pro, 1x enermax 431W ps

So...I have it set to 1.5V (normal for a P4) - cause when it is set to 1.575 it registers as 1.63 on average...

I ran my computer for a couple of hours - ran Prime95 torture test, too, but that crapped out with a hardware error after an hour. (which isn't suprising because I bought this as an OC package from pcnut.com and the mobo was set to 1.575V, which is presumably where it became stable)

So, I used ASUS Probe to monitor the voltages, and I used the history to see what they've been over the two hours.

The vcore reads from anywhere between 1.488V and 1.552V. And for the last half of the 2 hours, the voltage stayed at 1.55V for the most part.

And the BIOS is *definately* set to 1.5V. Not even automatic voltage, manual at 1.50V.

This can't be good for the CPU.

I've ordered a new PSU - an Antec TruePower 550W PSU. So I'm hoping that will do something with the voltages.

I was wondering - because my parent's computer is acting wierd too - could the electricity supplied to the house effect any of this? Maybe we are getting an abnormal supply or something.

If that was the case, would getting UPS's help, because they will regulate the power flow and keep it fairly normal for the computer?

thanks...

it sounds like your motherboard is simply overvolting. a lot of motherboards over/undervolt the chips..
