I was planning on getting the new PS3 80gig Bundle with MGS4 and the new PS3 controller. But the price is too high for me $559 (includes tax and shipping).
So I think i'll just get the PS3 40 gig for $399. It comes with nothing though, no game or free blu-ray movie.

So I was thinking of getting some used games instead.
My main purpose for the PS3 is Blu-ray player, shows off pictures and videos with it and play video games.

So what video games do you recommend. I like shooting games or sports games.

uncharted
ratchet and clank tools of destruction
hot shots golf

those games are from last year (except hsg) but they still are pretty pricey used at game stores.

resistance and motorstorm are also pretty solid, and motorstorm can be had pretty damn cheap since it was bundled w/the console for a while.

I haven't really seen any really good deals retail or used wise on many games. Best I've see is the $15/$30 clearance deal for Heavenly Sword and every now and then Amazon runs Oblivion for $20 (non GOTY edition) which is a decent bargain.

There's not really any *must* have games out there that I'd really want to actually buy. Plenty of rentals. But not really any owners given the one & done linear plots of many games. Plus the used game market is mostly a joke unless you find some local deals or lucky buy on Ebay. $5-$10 discount off of new? No thanks.

I was on GameStops website and saw lots of games at $19.99 or $24.99, that's the price that i'm looking for or less.

I just got Ratchet & Clank for $26, Tiger Woods '08 for $32, Virtua Tennis 3 for $26, and DMC4 for $29.50, all off eBay.

All good games, though I've only tried the demo for R&C so far (full game should be in my mailbox today).

I'll recommend heavenly sword. It's a very well made game. Everything looks great and feels very polished. It's a fun game with really high production values. It's a bit on the short side, but theres a bit of replay value thanks to the level select because some of the boss fights and other levels are really cool.. My favorite is the one where you charge down a thick cable to battle a bunch of dudes on this rock spire.. After you've beaten the game, you can go back to that level with all of the moves and shit unlocked and really tear it up.. It's like Hong Kong action-movie good.

Folklore is another great game that I don't think gets as much attention as it deserves. It has its flaws, the story is convoluted but most of all BORING, but you can more or less ignore all that and focus on the unique gameplay and amazing art work.

get uncharted too and you will have played through 3 of the 4 ps3 games that I've enjoyed so far.. so you'll be just like me.. don't you wanna be like me?

And they are more than likely crap games like movie knockoffs (Beowulf, Spiderman, Pirates of the Caribbean, ect) or old versions of sports games like Madden or NBA Live. Sony hasn't made a greatest hits/platinum price class for PS3 games so there is minimal price depreciation on all but the lowliest titles out there.

Ebay will likely be your best bet like Keith found. Sometimes you will see some decent deals out there for new ones - COD4 for $40 and maybe a $5 off coupon floating around making it $35 or something.

Get gamefly. I just rejoined and its not as bad as it used to be with game availability. Best way to try games for consoles.

Id suggest you still try out MGS4 since you aren't getting the bundle. Its a really good game all around. With cut scenes my playtime was just over 12 hours.

am I the only person that hated Motorstorm?

Uncharted was great, albeit short. I'm enjoying Blazing Angels right now. Try Half.com for good deals.

For PSN games.. definately get Super Stardust HD. You get a metric ton of gaming for the $10 entry fee. The solo pack is worth it as well (an extra $5 iirc).

Other than that... Call of Duty 4, Resistance, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted... any of those you can't go wrong with.

Also check on Gamefly. The used PS3 retail section. Sometimes there are some good deals on there, I try to check every few days.
