brand loyalty? Mobil 1 is the second best syn. oil out and readily available, and CHEAPER than amsoil. thats not brand loyalty, thats getting the best bang/buck syn.

I donno why everyone is beating down on Fram... I mean seriously wtf, is this some voodoo? Other than the guy across the street or your mechanic, wehre in the world do people get these ideas. Essentally the construction is the same for most oil filters, as well as the membrane.
People are beating down Fram because cardboard has no business being inside your engine.

Esentially, the construction is NOT the same for most oil filters or filter element, or "membrane" as you call it.

i dont want to run dino oil in it however. just because of the bad PCV on the car and the possibility of sludge which Syn. is less suceptible too. also, 3000k miles is going to be a long time from now, and mostly all the car will be doing is small driving down at school. and id say ill put on maybe 1000 miles in 3-4 months with two 300 mile+ drives so i dont want to have to change the oil at school, and syn. will last longer, and be better overall.

damnit, what stuff do you guys reccomend for an interior car cleaner/protector for the vinyl/plastic?

Meguiar's #40. Never use Armorall. Bleh.

And you should be using synthetic oil, since oil is used to cool your turbocharger.

hence why i want syn. i was runnin synth when the turbo blew, but i dunno if the old dino oil was sludgy or something and its not easy to drop the pan on the oil.

hmm where to find meguiars.

Vinylex and 303 are the best I've found. Get whichever is available around you

i buy the walmart brand filters and use the walmart brand oil
my cars are so old it doesn't really matter

I like the Car Quest filters, but I can't remember who they rebadge. They run me $8 or so, though, compared to like $2 for Fram or the Walmart Supertech ones.

why are you not replacing the PCV valve?

For my 73 VW Bus I use Mann/Mahle when I plan ahead and order 'em or get 'em from the VW shop. Otherwise, Mobil 1 or the new Purolator top of the line (I forget the exact name) blue ones. Bosch, Fram, etc, are all crap. Penzoil is Fram IIRC. In fact many brands boil down to just a couple of makers.
