What % of your salary do you put on an IRA or 401k?

18%. My company match is pathetic tho', but I put in so much since I'm young (26) and hope compounding interest will help me out in the long run.

have you tried calculating the difference on your paycheck after a pre-tax deduction on say, 5%??? Willing to bet it would be pretty close...

I put in 15% towards my 401k (company matches 50% up to the first 6%), also putting about 5% towards company stock (which is discounted by 5% for employees).

What's a good 401k balance to have by say age 30 if I want to retire around 55? I'm hoping to have over $50k by age 30.

Don't have 401K here, though the company I work at has profit sharing.
I put 2% in, they match depending upon profits. The last two years' the match was higher than 3:1.

I put in 6% now, dont' make enough.
I want to put 15% in.

Company match 3% of my base dollar for dollar.
and from 3% to 6% they match 0.50 for dollar.

Hope that wasn't too confusing.
