In my experience, it is always better to get one higher quality item than two lesser ones, especially when the 2nd isn't necessary (i.e. a pair of towers).

Based on speaker size, power rating, and room size, I don't think you need a pair of subs. I think one would do just fine unless you're listening to really demanding material at high volumes.

i have a pb1000 in a 14x23 room connected by an open archway to a 13x16 room, and it is plenty sufficient for my apartment listening levels. SVS's policies are excellent as well. I'd go with the pb2000
