Just like the title says. I plan on getting an apartment soon and was just curious what % you guys are paying for your house/apartment/whatever?

I was told you should only spend around 20% but that wouldnt be enough $ to pay the rent anywhere.

heck no im not. Im still in college and can only work part time. So if I was making 12/hr I can only work enough in a week to equal a 40 hr week at 6/hr.

I spend about 23% after withholding, but I put the max possible into my 401K, so I guess I spend around 27% of my net, take-home pay on my mortgage. I am at about 16% of my pre-tax income.

We talking pre-tax or after?

Pre-tax in the area of 18%, after tax 25% close to 26%.
Insurance/taxes included.

Edit: this is combined income with my wife..

28% at the moment...that will go to 17% once I get married this June.

~17% of my gross pay is earmarked for my mortgage.
