What OC are you getting out of hd7950? 1250mhz core!?

I'm impressed with how consistent the performance is, both in scaling and among the different models.

This korean review shows XFX @ 1250 and other cards all over 1150.
http://www.coolenjoy.net/bbs/cboard.php?id=review&no=6496&p=26

Could this be the highest OCing GPU? (56%). well.. not counting the intel GMA that ocs 200% without performance increase..:colbert:

What I want to know is if these overclocks are truly stable? Like I have noted before - I could increase the core clock on a number of high end cards and they could complete the benchmark, but they would artifact and eventually crash over time. I don't consider those clock speeds accurate.

On the other hand, my 460's in my profile actually do run perfectly with a 21% overclock. But, that is because generally everyone knew the 460's were deliberately held back based on TDP.

Exactly 3dmark11/ furmark stability and BF3 stability are very different things. My 5850 will run at 1030mhz all day in 3dmark11 but only manage 990mhz max for BF3. I would like to know how many of those 1200 mhz oc on the 7950 are actually long term game stable.

I got the Sapphire OC version of the card. OCed it to 1100/1500 and holding fan speed at 70 percent. It passed furmark and other benches I've thrown at it.

The only game I have that would probably press my card would be BF3. So I guess I will pull a BF3 marathon to check for gaming stability over a period of time

(my english might not be so good and a novice OCer)

822 is weaksauce on a 460! ;) Seriously, 79x0 appears to be held back as well. I guess this is what we get with no competition...

I would like to hear your experience with it.

Good luck, I'm curious to see if it's gaming stable as well. BF3 pushes these cards very well.

Be thankful it's easy enough for us to change the sliders and get some real performance. The fact that you can put a 40%+ overclock on these cards with little effort is awesome. How soon people forget the days of pencil mods/trimmers just to get another 20%. :p

Mine should be here in about 2 weeks, gonna be joining you guys soon. :D
It's going to be the custom gigabyte one like the one reviewed on [H], but a 7950.

Ofcourse I'm going to be horrible CPU bottlenecked, but I'm not sure if I should get a new one noq or wait for Ivy Bridge.

Anyway did some single player for BF3. What I noticed was a reddish purplish outline on the ceiling lights on the bank level and before that the tank that was on fire earlier in the level, when I look through the flames of the burning tank I see a purple distortion. I had the same issue as I did on my oc 5850 as well. So I have no clue whether or not its the oc or the game itself that is causing the distortion.

Multiplayer has been smooth as far as I can tell, Gulf of Oman, Caspian Border, the big maps with a lot of things going on have been pretty smooth sailing. Not noticing any weird artifacts or crashes so far. It was about a 4 hour gaming session, so maybe stuff is going to happen when I have a longer session.

This is the card I ordered.

WARNING. COMES WITH NOTHING.
Seriously, if you don't already have all the required cables and/or adapters you might need, you will need to get them.
It's a card, Crossfire bridge, and two 4-pin to 6-pin power cables. Nothing else in the box at all.

My Gigabyte Windforce (as above, 900MHz stock on core) won't go to 1100MHz on stock volts I don't believe. I threw it up to 1100/1400 and got a drive crash error in BF3. I'm assuming that's because of the O/C, because I dropped back to 1060 and ran SC2 and that had a funny moment as well, so I dropped it back a bit more. Haven't had more time to play with it.
All on stock voltages.

I don't know if I want to go eyefinity just yet, but the other cards are more expensive and will take longer to order.

What temps are you getting at 1ghz?

At 900MHz (stock) I was getting ~35~40c over ambient playing BF3. So about 50c because my room is quite cold at the moment.
Not sure about 1GHz since I wasn't running anything to check while at that speed.

Forgot to mention: default span feeds, so I think it was running at 30%.

7950=1100-1300 with proper cooling.
7970=1100-1400 with proper cooling.

Considering the stock mhz, its value for the entusiast.
I would seriously consider a 7950 since OC it dosnt loose out much to the 7970.

Would like to hear how you are getting on with this card stuka as its the card im probably gonna grab.

I would like to hear as well. If custom 7970s (twin frozr III preferably) aren't out by March then might have to settle for the Sapphire 7950.

Gigabyte Windforce HD7950 with mild overclock.

bf3temps.png

That's after some BF3 at default voltages and probably 12~15c ambient.

Max 53c with 35% max fanspeed. Not bad. 25% over a stock HD7950 (1010MHz core, 1375 memory).

My Saphire OC 7950 hits 1025 core 1400 mem at stock voltage 1.05V. I think it will go much higher with some extra V but I have little need for it now while I'm still using my Q6600 at 3ghz. 1050 core was mostly stable and would pass benchmarks but would eventually fail.
