My new little rig, a XP2000+ @1815/512Mb DDR Samsung PC2700/Gainward GF4Ti4200 128Mb in a Soyo Dragon+, is runing Win98SE and Win2K PRO (classic dual boot) - the same thing that I was using in my PIII 733.

I like to play a lot of games (HL, TFC, CS, Serious Sam etc) but I need to use the 2K for professional activities. I never tried to install games on 2K. Why? I really don't know.

The win98SE is not supported anymore(they never supported me) and I was wondering if XP would be a good choice or if the best thing to do is stay this way or even use only with 2K.

I heard(and read) sometime ago that XP has some drivers issues and problems with some games. Is that really true ?

What would you do in my place?

Any help, comments or suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance !
 
I would go with XP - 98's compatability and 2k's stability. There were driver/compatability issues early on, but that is to be expected when a new OS is released, I would think. And new software is always going to have a few bugs here and there, that's what patches are for. By and large though, I think most of the early XP bugs have been ironed out.

XP will run all games that 2K will,it`s really only very old games you might have problems with,games you meantion like HL,TFC,UT,Q3 etc all run fine in XP,I`m running them at the moment with my XP rig(I also have a 98 PC rig ) and really don`t use my old 98 PC for gaming anymore,btw the XP service pack one is out in September,my opinion on XP at the moment is there`s no problems for me on stability and games seem to run ok for me.


I would & actually did go with WinXP and have been happy with it,it`s a pretty good gaming OS as well now IMHO,remember XP has been out awhile now so support is getting better all the time.

I would ditch 9X and stick with 2K, XP's feature list isn't worth the price and the annoyances are many.
