Thanks for the suggestions guys. I do have my doubts that 2x560ti will have the guts to drive 3 HD monitors. I'm wondering if i should consider 6990 or 590. The 590 seems to be a fair bit cheaper than buying two 580s individually although performance might be a little less...

My board can do triple SLI however the 3rd pcie slot is only 4x so I question if that is a good idea. Is it worth considering 3 560s?

Its my understanding that SLI / crossfire scaling beyond 2 GPU's lowers considerably. Have you considered EVGA for SLI? You won't be able to OC them as much, but they are perfect for SLI. 1 slot solution and reliable. I'd be hesitant to get 6990 or 590, because you're sacrificing performance - they both run at lower clockspeeds than 6970x2 and 580x2. 590 runs at 690mhz I think, I could be wrong though. Anyway yeah if you go that route you'd sacrifice speed to free up a pci-e slot.

I guess if I were in your position - gaming on triple monitor i'd be drawn to 570x2. I highly recommend the MSI lightning, with the caveat being you need to make sure your case has good ventilation. The twin frozr 3 remains very cool even under high load and the fans are quiet even at high speeds. If you *must* have your card exhausting outside the case, get EVGA. Both of these cards easily OC to 580 levels even in sli, just make sure your PSU is up to the task.
