Hi guys! I am not very familiar with notebook graphics and I am currently looking for a laptop/notebook with a graphics chip that has a performance that is at least, close to the GeForce GTS 250?

What graphics chip should I look at on a laptop if I am considering playing games on it? Currently some of the laptop models I checked have GeForce 610 and 620. I am planning on playing games such as StarCraft 2, D3, Batman Arkham City and RE6 but of course I do not expect any laptop within my budget to play those games at maximum resolution/detail just medium setting would do but at an fps that is acceptable for a former gamer...

I tried checking the site hwcompare before to check what notebook graphics can come close to the GTS 250 but I couldn't find any graphics chip for notebooks, mostly the site it is for graphics card for desktop.

Thanks for any replies! :)

GT 640m or 650m

610 and 620 are a lot slower than the GTS 250.

Hi guys, I just want to ask for your advise again on what laptop processor and video card that is equivalent to or better than a desktop Pentium Dual Core E6600 3.0ghz, Geforce GTS 250 and 2GB RAM? The reason for this is because I'm am currently looking for a budget laptop that could play StarCraft 2 and DOTA 2 at max settings. The reason why I specifically mentioned Pentium E6600 and GTS 250 is because I was able to play StarCraft 2 Wings of Liberty on that system at high setting with a very good frame rate. So logically, laptops today that could equal the performance of that desktop spec should be a lot cheaper.

So far I've been checking the secondhand market and seen some cheap Core i5 and i7 laptops being sold with a "GT" graphics card. Ive seen some laptop with "GTX" graphics but they are still a bit out of my budget. So what Core i5's or i7's should be equally or more powerful than the Pentium E6600 and what GT graphics chip? is it GT 650m?

Thanks in advance for any replies! :)

CPU: Any Ivy Bridge based Pentium, Haswell based Pentium or Skylake based Pentium from this list, as long as the last letter is 'M':
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_microprocessors#Haswell_based_Pentiums_2
But not the Silvermont based Pentiums (Bay Trail, Braswell)!
Also, any i3, i5 or i7 Ivy Bridge or newer, as long as it's 'M' again:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...idge_microarchitecture_.283rd_generation.29_2

GPU:
Geforce GT 640m, GT730m, 825m, 920m or higher.
(Correct me if I'm wrong)

The GTS250 is a 9800 GTX+, so it's not exactly a new GPU. It's not DX11 either, but it's still surprisingly potent.

Really, any nvidia laptop GPU with 445M/550M/635M or better will be faster. For current GPUs, anything 8xx or 9xx series other than maybe 810M and 820M would be fine. Any current AMD mobile GPU would be as powerful.

For onboard GPUs, other than Iris Pro or Skylake all the Intel iGPUs will be weaker than your GTS 250. Any AMD APU laptop that's A10-7XXX (Kaveri) or A8-8XXX (Carrizo) or up would be fine.

Take a look at the chart on the bottom of the page here.
