For many many years, all I had in my main computer system was a Vortex 1 based sound card then a Vortex 2 based sound card. I have always loved them better that Sound Blaster cards and worked great in Windows operating systems but then, WinXp came along and ruined it for me because of their lack of support even though the technology and the computer are history.

Anyway, I tried to avoid SB cards like the plague. So, what kind of sound card do you suggest that isn't an Audigy that I should get or think of getting for my computer?? I have audigy's in almost all of my other computers. I have a Turtle Beach soundcard but I don't like it that much. What do you recommend? Or should I just bite the darn bullet and get another Audigy card?

Oh and it must be good with computer games and support at least 4.1 surround sound.

Philips Rythmic Edge for a 4.1 soundcard, or the Philips Seismic or Acoustic Edge for a 5.1 card.

Also, you might want to try to do a search on sound cards since there have been quite a few threads on them lately....

ahhh... another sound card thread... let's see... since you don't want another SB card... and the Turtle Beach SC didn't aggree with you... go ahead and try something different... Phillips Acustic, Rythmic, Seismic Edge cards are good cards also... hehe... Insane3d here is their biggest advocate... I personally enjoy me TB SC... but i won't push it on you since you tried it already... go with one of the Phillips cards and see if it appeals to you... if not... like you say... bite the bullet and get an Audigy... who nows... maybe Creative Labs has finally made a card that's right for you... no harm in experimenting with your personal taste... GOOD LUCK...

Actually he didn't say he had bad luck with a Santa Cruz. For all we know it was a Montego.

I have a Turtle Beach soundcard but I don't like it that much. What do you recommend?

Do a search for Santa Cruz and sift thru all of the valuable user feedback.

Hmmm, I just installed Win XP on my kids computer that has a Vortex 1 card in it and it seems to work fine. Same thing with a $15 CMedia card in my other kids computer. I have a SBLive Value in my machine that also works fine in Win XP and 2 other SBLive Value cards in my other 2 Win98 machines (including one on a KT7 mb) that all work fine. So what's all the fuss about?
