The former Massachusetts governor on Thursday made official his White House run and offered a blistering critique of President Barack Obama. Romney says he would rein in Washington spending and put the country on a course toward economic recovery.

This is the republican guy that is suppose to beat Obama...
So.. where's the beef guys?
This is the "man". The Obama terminator.
The savior of the republicans.
The guy that is going to take back the White House.
So where are the balloons? The ticker tape? The "GO ROMNEY GO" threads?
What does Romney have to do to get your attention?
Chose some off the wall governor from Alaska as his running mate?
(ops... been there..done that)

Nobody really likes Romney I think. I mean we all know that politicians are liars and opportunists, but our good friend Mitt really takes that to the extreme. I doubt if even he remembers where he stands on some issues.

Looking forward to seeing him make a joke of himself to win the GOP nomination.

Whats Romney gonna change from Obama? Nothing.

I don't want Romney to win, I rather have Obama.

With Romney or mostly any of the other republicans we have the illusion of small-government when we really have more of the same.

I rather have someone in the white house thats admits that they aren't for smaller government than someone who lies about it.

I'm from MA too, Romney made an ok governor but theres no way I want him in the white house.

I have been wondering to what lengths some of these candidates may go to. Mcain actually did a good job staying moderate during most of the election except for the primaries. The primaries have become so polarizing and plain toxic to moderates that the next year should be full of manufactured outrage and controversy.

The ultra right already distrusts Romney, but the rest of the Republicans probably think that he could potentially be one of their strongest candidates. I'm excited to watch him go full retard to try and win over the base.

Maybe I should have posted this in the "Love and Relationships" forum? :D
I'm just waitin for the "stunt".
Taking on Sarah as his running mate?
Shaving his head?
Promissing every citizen (if he is elected) a $1000 check?
Dancing chickens?
Just waiting for the stunt. There has to be a stunt.
John McCain knows too well how that works.

+1. It could turn out like how we would've been better if we had stayed with Carter.

However, I think he made a shitty governor because he raised taxes and increased expenditures in addition to Romneycare. He also banned assault weapons in MA.

Rick Perry FTW.
Fuck Rick Perry. Debra Medina FTW.

I honestly know nothing about the guy (I don't pay much attention to individual political figures), but what grabbed me is, "Massachusetts."
We don't breed our people stupid up here. Our state Republicans are not, "Creationism in the public schools/welcome to the United States of Christendom/Segregation - Fuck Yeah!"
A New Englander generally operates by process both sides before reaching a considered conclusion. So right off the bat it looks to me like this guy manufactured a partisan image to appeal to conservatards who are themselves really that partisan.

I just don't have a supportable stereotype that can cram him into a conservatard mold. Even if I find that he was raised in the Deep South, he was still elected governor of Massachusetts, and that just ain't gonna happen to a 'tard.

Does anyone want to point me to data that does support that he really is a True Believer of Conservatardism?

Romney's worse than McCain when it comes to selling out his principles to win votes.

Besides, Palin made sure to steal his thunder anyway. lol

I only ever think of this article when I hear that name.

Mitt Romney Haunted By Past Of Trying To Help Uninsured Sick People

BELMONT, MA—Though Mitt Romney is considered to be a frontrunner for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, the national spotlight has forced him to repeatedly confront a major skeleton in his political closet: that as governor of Massachusetts he once tried to help poor, uninsured sick people.

Romney, who signed the state's 2006 health care reform act, has said he "deeply regrets" giving people in poor physical and mental health the opportunity to seek medical attention, admitting that helping very sick people get better remains a dark cloud hovering over his political career, and his biggest obstacle to becoming president of the United States of America.

"Every day I am haunted by the fact that I gave impoverished Massachusetts citizens a chance to receive health care," Romney told reporters Wednesday, adding that he feels ashamed whenever he looks back at how he forged bipartisan support to help uninsured Americans afford medicine to cure their illnesses. "I'm only human, and I've made mistakes. None bigger, of course, than helping cancer patients receive chemotherapy treatments and making sure that those suffering from pediatric AIDS could obtain medications, but that's my cross to bear."

"My hope is that Republican voters will one day forgive me for making it easier for sick people—especially low-income sick people—to go to the hospital and see a doctor," Romney added. "It was wrong, and I'm sorry."

According to Romney, if he could do things over again, he would do everything he could to make certain that uninsured individuals got sicker and sicker until they died. Promising his days of trying to provide medical coverage to the gravely ill are behind him, Romney said that if elected president, he would never even think about increasing anyone's quality of life or trying to lower the infant mortality rate.

In addition, Romney repeatedly apologized for wanting to help people suffering from diabetes, Crohn's disease, and anemia.

"I don't know what got into me back then," Romney said. "Wanting to make sure people were able to have health insurance if they left their job. Providing a federally funded website so individuals could compare the costs of insurance providers. Making certain that somebody who earns less than 150 percent of the poverty level can receive the same health care coverage as me or any government official. All I can say is that I was young and immature, and I am not that person anymore."

"The only solace I can take is in the hope that some of the folks I helped were terminally ill patients who eventually withered away and died," Romney added.

What? No "Romney Announces" threads?

He's never really stopped running for President since the 2008 elections, so him running in 2012 isn't news.

His upside is that he seems like a pragmatic, non-idealogue Republican. Downside is that he seems like he's a hack with no core political beliefs, only positions of convenience that shift depending on audience.

I like Romney. He was my guy in '08 and may well be my guy in the 2012 primaries. I even like Romneycare, as my preference is to have fifty states all required to have full coverage with those states adopting failing systems then free to adopt a successful system from the state most like their own. But as Glenn1 says, he's never really stopped running for President, so it doesn't really seem worth a lot of words when he announces that he's running. Kind of like Ricky Martin coming out of the closet.

As long as Palin keeps painfully inserting herself into the public eye no Republican has a chance.

If you were to put the ten best minds from all of history in a room along with the village idiot, who do you think would have all the attention?
