This wasn’t today but this E9 coupe lives at one of my local BMW dealers. Absolute design perfection. I will own one of these but they’re $100k+ now and my existing cars are too high a percentage of my net worth as it is 😂. Still if a recession special comes up …..

I saw a black Kia EV6 today. I'm trying to wrap my brain around the design. It looks much better in person, but it's definitely a hybrid design, almost a "design by committee" design like the Pontiac Aztek. Like, on the back, they tried to go with the Nissan Leaf look a bit. But the front actually looked really sharp. It sort of reminded me of the design of the GM EV1. My neighbor had a red one when I was growing up & the front looked really cool in-person, but the rear was really goofy lol. Overall it definitely had a "futuristic" vibe, like BTTF2. It was also larger than I expected, which was a nice surprise!

just picked this up for a road tripper / daily. drives fantastic. You don't see many on the road. Opal/Buick/Vauxhall insignia Estate/ TourX built in germany. 2.0T All wheel drive. and 30ish mpg.

I looked into getting one of those...tons of storage room in the back, AWD, great MPG...definitely a stealth vehicle!

i did see a kia EV6 yesterday, it's a little crazy looking. I think the ioniq looks fantastic though.
I like my TourX, white 2018, moon roof.

At work today I loaded a Tesla with 2 cu. yds. of hardwood mulch. Seeing one on the road isn't as rare or neat as it used to be but seeing one towing a trailer with mulch loaded it in sure is. This guys been coming in for a couple of years and every time I load his trailer it makes me chuckle.

Saw this on the road yesterday. /puke
Also saw the new Bronco.

Yeah that nose is very...prominent in real life lol.

The new Bronco is a very interesting creature. I feel like it's a blank canvas. I've seen a lot that I love, some I like, and some that I don't like at all. One thing I really like is how good bronze wheels look on it!

I saw an Audi R8 V10 , red with temporary tags; probably off the same boat as @AdamK47 ‘s.

You know, I saw an orange one flicking about the street the other day. 'twas weird.
Same street I saw a Taycan about 8 months ago, recently wrapped in like, steel grey gunmetal or something, flutter about. weirdos.

But yesterday, I saw this Vantage, in this color:

I'm sure dude was on his way to the shop, because I did see a flatbad about 3 cars back, probably following him.

But damn, it was the best looking thing anywhere on the road that day.

Ha! I don’t get that from the design language at all. Guess I must be naturally evil. Now the E9 batmobile variant on the other hand is too evil for me. My mechanic bought one for $9k in 2001. He beat the stock market pretty handily with that one.

First time seeing an IONIQ5. Still think they should have included a rear wiper.

Agreed. It's fun to see it on the road tho...it's sort of like what Ital Design would have imagined a futuristic car as, but back in the 80's. That side triangle indent design feature is pretty interesting IRL too!

Not my picture, but I just saw a car carrier full of Rivian trucks in-person (NYC). They were absolutely gorgeous in person! Just really great styling, size, etc. for a nice pickup truck.

I followed a Rivian R1T launch edition in blue on the freeway the other day. It looked really good in that medium blue color.

Can’t wait for my R1S.

I'm realizing that my criteria for a "neat car" has grown much slimmer in recent years.

Used to be that any higher-end sports car (say, a 911) would be the highlight of the day. Now, it either has to be truly special (such as a recent Lambo or McLaren) or a nicer EV. I can't help but wonder why some folks pour that much money into a modern supercar when they can be smoked (in a straight line, anyway) by someone picking up the kids from school in a Model S Plaid.

I think a lot of it just boils down to simply liking the car itself, so intrinsic value on whatever the owner personally likes is the main driver in a lot of cases. Like a Nissan GT-R is a full second or two slower than a Tesla Plaid at this point, but that's not at all what the car is about! For a lot of people, it's about the story (handcrafted engines), the heritage, the aftermarket mods, etc. For me, I really like aesthetics & weirdness. My current car ('18 Ecoboost Mustang) has very specific aesthetics that I like. I don't care for most other Mustangs at all. Like this design is a solid nope from me:

1653022102336.png

It looks like a giant Dustbuster to me. Not interested in this design at ALL (and yet my buddy has this exact red one below but in convertible & absolutely LOVES it!)

1653022255151.png

1653022391512.png

But the 2015-redesigned S550? Yup, that does it for me! Entirely different design language, angles, lines, everything, love it!

1653022196865.png

I like how I fit in the S550, I like the visibility, how it drives, the MPG I get, how light & easy the clutch is, how the lines look, and even my specific color (royal crimson, sort of a dark red/purple shift with a tinted clearcoat). The car is fast enough on the 4-cylinder Ecoboost (0 to 60 in 5 seconds), but for me, it's not really about the numbers...I previously had a Kia Soul that was 0 to 60 in 9 seconds lol. So my main metrics & drivers aren't about performance at all, because by today's standards, a 5-second 0 to 60 run is pretty slow, given that a Model 3 Performance edition is 3.1 seconds out of the box haha!

Finally saw a Rivian in the wild on the road! (random google pic below) Really gorgeous in-person, great styling, perfect size for a little around-town pickup. I just wish they were like $24k instead of $67k+!
