What multifunction printer would you recommend?

Canon MP730. I love mine. It uses the same printer engine as the Canon i860, has a faxer, a flatbed scanner, a feeder. You can get one for about $270 US.

edit: or do you want laser?
 
Laser. I need printing and fax functions. Also, it must have a paper tray.

I would also like eternal uptime 😉. I have an HP LaserJet 4L, and it sucks my balls. Automatic feed stopped working about 2 years ago, and just recently, even manual feed has failed. I've had the printer for about... 8 or 9 years now? A long time, but it's quite inconvenient when you need to print somethign.
 
I just got a Canon MP390. It seems pretty nice so far. I chose a Canon because ink carts are relatively inexpensive, even at most retail stores.

EDIT: But darn it! You want a laser, not an ink jet.
