Let's say someone out there asks you for your help.

And what you need to motivate yourself to help them out?

Could be....

1) You are just that kinda person. No reason required
2) She's a hot chick. Can't say no to that (plus, nice rack)
3) Scratch my back, I'll scratch yours kinda deal
4) Financial motivation
5) Free beer!
6) Add your own...

It's called friendship and enjoying the company of others? Sometimes moving furniture is just as fun as 'hanging out' with someone if that person is a good friend. Usually, people who are fun to be around are helpful when friends need them.

You'd probably die if your wife offered you the stink eye. :Q

1) if i get paid, sure (paid doesn't have to be money--food, beers, whatever)
2) hot, flirty chicks can get me to do stuff
3) building up favors w/other capable people
4) if i could see myself in that situation, and I would want help (e.g. somebody trying to debug code for a hmwk that I've finished... I'll generally help if I have time b/c I would want someone to help me out if I were similarly stuck. But I don't give money to charity or to the homeless directly b/c I don't see myself ever needing it.)

My wife actually complains because I have trouble saying "no" to anyone asking for help. However, if a certain uncle dares to ask for any more help he is gonna get kicked in his coin purse and when he bends over because his balls are retreating into his abdomen, I'm gonna judo chop him in his throat. Besides him, I usually try to help anyone who asks if I know they have done as much as they can without assistance.

Well generally number 1, but there could be instances when the other numbers come into play, it all depends.

2 doesn't always apply, but I'm a guy so I don't want to pretend like it never happens. I also help out if it feels like I'm "supposed to." Not from a responsibility standpoint, but from fate. It's hard to explain.
