What motherboards can I use with the Cyrix C3 Processors?

I have been out of the hardware scene for a little bit and am already behind. I want to build a perfectly silent computer and was hoping to use the C3 processors. Any ideas what motherboards I can use? Also, know of any fanless PSU's out there that are cheap and affordable?

Well, I'm no expert in this area, but I do know that the C3 is a socket 370 design so that means it will have to be a board capable of running Intel processors. I doubt that the Intel 810e/815e chipset would run it, but I know that Via chipsets run it. That little silver Shuttle computer that everyone keeps talking about (AV24 I think??) uses some sort of Via chipset and I believe I've read reviews with it running a Cyrix processor.

I know this isn't much help but hopefully it will point you in the right direction. Also, I don't know of any fanless Power Supplys, but someone here posted a FAQ on how to make an Antec power supply silent by removing the fan in the back and inserting a silent one (I'd imagine that this mod would work on any kind of power supply and not just Antec).

Hope this helps at least a little bit.

I don't think there is such an animal. You can try PC Power & Cooling and see what they carry in quiet psu's. The other option is to just exchange the psu fan yourself, a fan such as a Panaflo L1A 80mm is very quiet and should do the job well. I wouldn't try to go totally fanless with this... you have to remember, your components are still producing heat, and still need some cooling. Just because you don't need a fan on the cpu heatsink doesn't mean that you don't require other cooling aids.

I believe if you do a search the forums for info on the C3 under "silent" and the processor name you'll get some links to some reviews. The reason I'm saying to do this is that I saw a review linked in a post here that mentioned that certain Intel chipsets don't work very well with the C3. Maybe someone else will have an idea...

Any Socket 370 board will run a VIA C3, the only catch is that IIRC, one of the upcomign C3's were going to be Tualatin based, and thus only be able to be used in Tualatin compatible boards, but for the most part, C3's will run in any Socket 370 board.
