What motherboard should I buy?

I need to order a motherboard TODAY and I can't decide which to get. I'm primarily looking at the MSI K7T-266, the Shuttle AK31A, and the Epox 8KHA. I have used a lot of MSI boards and been very happy. I have used a few Epox boards and had only a few problems. I have used NO Shuttle boards and did not think they were very good. So, I'm not sure which one to get. I'm looking for stability and reliability. I don't plan to overclock but speed would be nice. What should I get?

I think any of your choices would be good for stability/reliability... boards these days are usually pretty good when it comes to stability...

when it comes down to overclockability and such that is where things change.. I for instance have an MSI K7T Turbo-R Limited Edition board and after a few months with this board have NOT seen it crash an un-overclocked speeds.. only when running my 1333@1500 would it lock up after a few hours of 3D gameplay. when not overclocked it would run forever... Needless to say I love MSI stuff right now!

if it were me, because I like to buy something new each time, I'd try the shuttle, haven't ever built a shuttle based system and that board looks awesome!!!

The EpoX looks really sweet too though, whatever you can find at a good price i'd say.. just as long as it's a KT266A chipset not a regular KT266
the A is far better!!

I guess you wanted to narrow your options down? I'd say go for the AK31A!

I will absolutely not buy that ECS board. It is based on a SIS chipset and I swore I would never buy another SIS based board again. As far as I'm concerned SIS owes me 2 years of my life which I spent trying to get my last SIS based board working (I never did get it to work. Just bad design).

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, but the new SiS chipsets are different - high quality, high performance solutions. My main rig uses an ECS K7S5A and I haven't had a single problem.

ecs k7s5a ...

stable, easy to set up, & a great combination of features, performance, and price!

good luck!

think about it........if u just need a simple, fast, stable solution get the ECS k7s5a...only $62 @ newegg.com...............but if your like me............u want a little more xpansion and faster performance (which the KT266a offers), go with the Shuttle AK31A.........it has 6PCI, 4DIMMS, and overclockign features that rival abits softmenu III (according to reviews). SHuttle AK31A runs for $89 at newegg.com.............................look at the facts........for $27 more u get a faster platform......1 more pci....2 more dimm slots....plus way more overclocking features...............I'd go with the the AK31A.

agree hansXP, i kinda got sick of the "via bugs," especially the fixes that would still leave sum system flaky.
