What Motherboard should I buy for this ...

Hi.. I am building a PC for playing Star Wars Galaxies on!

So far I have been convinced about buying an 750i because it is cheap and is pretty new, I think.
But, I have decided that I will not be using SLI after all! I don't want to.
So I was thinking if there is another board that is better than the 750i, but is in the same pricerange. I have heard something about the x48 or x38, but is it a good idea to buy them?
I am confused as to what I should do.

I am going to use a Core 2 duo E8400. That I do know and I also know that I am going to buy a 8800 GTS and possibly overclock it.

Should I continue with my plan and buy the 750i or are there better options for me out there that I've missed?

Thanks for any help

Short answer is NO.

Buy a board with the Intel chipset, they are more stable than Nvidia chipset mobos.
The ONLY reason to buy a Nvidia chipset board over an Intel chipset board is if you want to run SLI.
If you're not going sli, then buy an intel board FOR SURE.

So now your question will be...P35, x48 or x38.

I personally cannot answer that question fully as i have no experience with the x38 or x48 boards.

All i can say is that i have a p35 board (the Abit ip35-E) and its miles better than my Nvidia 780i mobo. (i own the Asus P5N-T 780i mobo also).

Alright.. That sounds good. Thanks a lot.
´X48 is the newest, so I should probably go for that one.

Not necessarily, i believe x48 would require DDR3 ram and its expensive right now compared to DDR2.

Wrong....X48 is the newest, but also the most expensive.

Go for a P35 based motherboard, lots of good choices for ~$100. The only thing X48 gives you is dual 16X PCIe slots for Crossfire, which you aren't going to use anyway.

Some X48 boards are DD#, but some are also DDR2.

Hey guys, I have the same question but I plan on using an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000 or higher. Can I get some help picking a mobo?

thanks in advance,
Jacito

Of the p35 boards here are some good options.
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L
ABIT IP35-E (which is sold out at the moment)

Yes, but do they support WOLFDALE? I think they don't.
The 750i is very cheap and it supports Wolfdale and I think it also performs well, but I don't know. I am looking for performance differences here. That is the main quest. I would have to give up on a new E8400 just to go with this motherboard and get a E6750. Am I correct?

I don't know of any P35 board that doesn't support wolfdale....Some might need a BIOS flash to fully support it though.

Ah I see.. Alright. Thanks for the help. But do you guys know how the Intel chipsets perform vs the nvidia ones?

In general, about the same, but nvidia chipsets have a history of having problems, like their older ATA drivers had some compatibility problems with some HD's, and the new 790 chipset has possible memory corruption issues if you OC.

Plus nvidia chipsets tend to run hotter then intel.
