Hello,

I'm a long time reader but first time poster.
I'm about to attempt to build me another PC. The last time I did this was about 4 years ago and I know things have changed a lot since then. I'm still running my intel 3.6 single core which is still hanging in there.

I just purchased the q9550 and had been reviewing these forums for quite a while now.
I was curious to know what motherboard to use with this chip. Or if anyone has this chip , which one are you using and are you happy with it so far?

Right now I am thinking of the P5Q deluxe. I read there was a problem on one review from the newegg site on the premium, so I wasn't happy to see that. Here's the link
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813131326

I would like to go with SLI

I was also thinking of going with ddr2.
Would consider the DDR3 if it would make a big diff in performance.

Thanks.

Other than the SnailTrail , you can't go SLI with an intel chipset, crossfire only. You will have to pick up an Nvidia based board if you want to SLI. 750/780/790 etc.

I don't trust any reviews I read on NewEgg, did you notice that everyone on there has a (self rated) high level of technical understanding? BAHAHAHAHA.. Plenty of guys around here are using the p5q without issue.

I have not seen any reason to go with DDR3, yet, maybe when the x58 boards come out the story will change. It has not been shown to be that much, if any, faster on the current offerings.

One other thing for you to consider, if you are going to spend that kind of bling on a board and you want the intel chipset then consider an x48 chipset.
