I am looking for stable but no frills. Possibly on-board sound but that's not a requirement. All I really need is a motherboard that works with a Duron Socket A PGA Processor .

Needs to be "affordable" :)

Any Suggestions????

ECS K7S5A has the sis 735 chipset. Cheap and works well. ECS K7VAT3 is inexpensive if you like via kt266a chipset.

ECS K7S6A has the sis 745 chipset if you want to use pc 2700 ram. Or MSI 745 ultra with the same chipset. Or Asus A7S333.

Just a few ideas.

Stay away from ECS. Everytime I come to these forums I hear about failing ECS motherboards.
I'd go with Abit, Gigabyte, Epox, and Asus as my main choices.

The KR7A is the best overclocker out of all of the KT266A boards. I wouldn't get KT333 unless you wanted to take advantage of USB 2.0 or ATA133 as the Duron only has a 200MHz FSB.

Did you already buy the CPU? IF not, it would be kind of silly to buy a Duron 1.2ghz for $40 when you could get a 1600+ XP for only $11 more. :)

Newegg has a biostar M7VIG board that uses either sdram or ddram (not both at the same time). It comes with onboard sound, video, and looks like lan for only $66 with free shipping.

CPU prices are in a flux. The Duron 1.2 costs $32 at Nutrend this morning, and the XP1600 is $52 at NewEgg= $20 difference. Is the XP worth the extra 60% in cost? (Really==I'm building a new system for non-gaming purposes and would like feedback)

Thanks for the ideas.. With the $11 more exspensive 1600 I would need to buy a fan for, the 1.2 already has a fan. But it is an idea worth thinking about.

Lets see what I feel like on pay-day :)

Actaully I'm building a system for game emulation in a custom upright arcade cabinet. I don't need much of a processor to run games like "1942" or "Mr Do" :) :)

whats affordable? if you want a great board for sub $100 i would get the epox 8k5a2 (its around $85 without shipping)

if you want something cheaper the biostar M7VIQ is around $70 (both of these boards are based on the kt333 chipset)
