What motherboard do you recommend....Athlon 64 nForce 3 250

Complete newbie to this forum and AMD setups. I've built an Intel-based system or two, but now having to biuld a new lowish-priced system, an Athlon 64-based system seems the way to go. I am confused on their motherboards, though.

What I have on hand:

2 X Corsair ValueRam 512MB 2.5 CAS DDR strips

Western Digital 120GB SATA hard drive

ATI 9600XT AGP video card

Antec Sonata case w/380w ps (I know...but this is the splurge item... 😉 )

The cpu I'm planning on using is the socket 754 Athlon 64 3000+ Newcastle core. (At under $150 for the retail cpu w/heatsink shipped, too cost-effective to pass up.)

My question is not for overclocking ability...not my thing. I am looking for stability foremost and utmost. What would be the most desirable motherboard for this requirement.....the Asus, DFI Lanparty, or what? I'm centering on the nForce3 250 chipset boards.....avoiding the socket 939 boards because of cost.

Appreciate any and all help!! Thanks!!

Epox has 2 socket 754 nforce3 boards for under $70. The higher one has a gigabyte lan, but no firewire. They will overclock. I suggest you try for 2.3-2.4. I run my p4 with a 33% overclock, very stable.

I think you can actually get the retail socket 939 Winchester core Athlon64 3000+ for about $10 more. I would think this would be a better platform to build a system. Now, look for a 939 board.
