What modern music will still be listened to 500 years from now?

All kinds. Everyone has different taste. I would still be listening to John Digweed 500 years from now if I were still alive, and Nirvana, NIN, Tool. Just to name a few.

Also Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, the Doors, geez there are so many.

Some people may still be listening to Brittney Spears in 500 years too. Its all a matter of taste.

disney movie themesongs... but everyone who hears them will have a chip implanted in their brains that will automatically pay the cryogenically restored Walt $1billion dollars for the "right" (of course $1 billion will be like $1 in the year 2500).

either that or Rage Against the Machine (like in the Matrix)

Probably all of it, if the masters don't get destroyed in the few world wars to come.

Bwuahahaha. What will they call this era, the Dull Ages?

There is no way John Mayer was around in 98... Didn't his first album come out in 2002?

Classical music will probably continue to survive. It has for hundreds of years so far. I'd think that the greatest groups of today's era - those who have proven their staying power, will continue to be listened to - things like the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Doors... Groups/musicians/entertainers who have been marketed more as fads than talent will probably fade into obscurity - there are dozens of examples of top artists from even 10 or 15 years ago who have faded rather rapidly... N'Sync? Backstreet Boys? Look at how many groups have survived from the 70's as evidence of the fade into obscurity for most bands, even those we think are too popular to fade. Tony Orlando and Dawn? Sonny and Cher? BeeGees? They are all continuing to fade. Pink Floyd - when did they form? 60's? I still hear them played daily on stations. In fact, tonight it's the weekly Floyd Fix at 11pm... 30 minutes of nothing but the same 20 songs as every other week.
