I recently found out that my modem is not supported by XP, it works fine under XP, but I am getting a stop error when i try to put the computer into hibernate, The error says something like Multiple Complete IRQ requests, and the windows KB says that it is due to an out of date driver. I downloaded new drivers for my 8500DV, Hercules GTXP, and soem other stuff and am still getting the error. It may not actually be the modem as there are other drivers I need to download still, but I am still interested in finding a cheap Win XP compatiable modem that gets the job done.

How about an external modem, to elminate problems? Try USB or Serial.

When I did buy modems, I have pretty good luck, with 3com, Zoom and Creative Labs.

Try to avoid the dreaded win modems.

I use this modem with XP and it gives me great bandwidth along with V.92 support which includes modem on hold.

I build all new systems with the CREATIVE LABS/BROADXENT, available for $ 23 from NewEgg
Whenever I build a system I put one of these modems in so I have a 'Back-up', in the event that the
Cable/Dsl/Whatever has problems - I have a way to get out to the I'Net.

The actual hook-up speed depends on your local line functionality, but my Daughter's system in St. Louis hooks @ 50.6 &
my Son's system in Ft. Huachuca hooks @ 48.0. They have both had an ocassional hook-up @ 53.2, but that's rare, and
depends on line traffic at the time.
