What model year did Hyundai/Kia start trying harder?

Late 90's was a good period for them in which the Sonata & Elantra did well against their competitors.

Fast forward to 2004 - 2005 and you see intoroductions for the new Elantra, Sonata, Azera, and Entourage cars.


2009 should see even better from Hyundai as they are developing new engines, having touch screen Nav as an option, and introdcuing a true RWD sports car and a RWD luxo cruiser.
