What mini DV cams are good to get?

Nocturnal

I'm looking for something mainly to shoot car show footage, some minor drag strip footage, etc etc.

Something that can easily be transported to DVD. My budget WOULD be around $2000.00.

I don't have the $ but I'm just saying if I saved up enough what kind of cam would be up to par for what I would need?

Get the cheapest one that has IEEE (I believe they all do now).. Really, unless you're doing commercial work there's no need to spend $2,000.. Get a $600 Canon or Sony...If you want to get the final product to DVD then you'll need to convert the DV footage to MPEG II.. Or you can get an MPEG II camcorder.. I think hitachi makes one and sony but they're over priced.. Just get a dv camera and covert to Mpeg in post.. I had a $2,500 sony trv900 and loved the ah heck but had to sell it.. I planned on using it professionally so I needed a 3CCD camera with a a large optical zoom - you don't need that... In fact, my gf's $400 samsung dv camera works great..I was easily able to edit the footage, convert it to dvd and then burn it onto dvd-r and the footage looks great..

Get a Canon. the ZR series can be had for around $600 and the quality is great. If you're gonna go hi tech, JVC just released a hi-def prosumer DV cam that comes in around $2k.
