What might be broadcasting this?

Oh I forgot to mention it is Ad-Hoc... it is a device not a router.

And this is at work... so there should be no other SSID's around (like in a neighborhood).

😕

Is your office in the middle of nowhere, with no other offices anywhere near you? It might just as well be from some other office. Have you tried moving around with whatever wireless device you're using, to try and narrow down where the signal is strongest and might be coming from? Can you connect to the network and see if you can browse its files, or even connect to a web management page for whatever it is?

Our office is in the middle of nowhere (manufacturing plant).

I havn't tried connecting to it yet... I guess I figured it would be an easy answer. It seems like it might be a default name. I highly doubt someone going to all that trouble for an SSID.

Hmm... I try and connect to it with my Pocket PC and it will not let me. When I click and hold the "connect" option is greyed out....

Nevermind... I figured out how to force it. I can get 3-4 bars constant, but I am not getting an IP (169.245.66.207). Any ideas?

Whatever device it is isn't configured to act as a DHCP server or running NAT, so it may have a statically assigned IP, or may be using an automatic IP assignment the way Windows does, but who knows what IP range it might default to. Find out whether the PSP does such a thing and pick a random IP from that range and you might be able to connect.

Is it actually hurting anything or is it violating a rule, or are you just curious?

Mostly just curious. But it could be a security issue depending on what it is.

I suppose PSP's would just have 192.168.?.xxx for IP addresses?

It would have been more difficult, I suppose, for one to place itself as a DHCP host and the other connect and draw an IP from it. I really don't know much about how PSP's work.

Too bad I don't have a laptop with a wireless card at my disposal. 🙁 I could find out real quick.
