What's a good and basic certification to get in today's slumping market? Can anybody recommend a good site that will list most of the certifications that you can get by name, category and price of the exam?

hmmm, if you want to go the microsoft way id say MCSE, I Just finished my 2K MCSE up last week, was not too difficult. If you are wanting a GOOD and USEFULL certification I would just say CCIE :) study your ass off and you CAN pass it.

Oh there is a shortage alright. A shortage of skilled, experienced individuals. EVERY PROFESSION IN THE WORLD has a shortage of SKILLED experienced laborers. Unfortunately IT used to have a shortage of even unskilled, inexperienced people. That particular shortage no longer exists.
