I just bought a 2500+ cpu with an ABIT NF7-S motherboard. I am wondering what kind of memory to get, 2700? 3200?

get corsair XMS3200

if you want to run fsb higher than 200 it will do it with a lil more voltage and higher timings.

i have mine running at 410MHz with 2.9V and timings at 11,2,2,2

If you are gonna overclock your proc...which you must be doing or else why would you be here, I would go for the 3200. Unless you are gonna really max out that FSB, then go with 3500. Anyway, it's your money. DDR prices have kinda been iffy right now.

I highly doubt your Corsair 3200 needs 2.9V to run at 205 MHz. Try knocking the voltage down to 2.8 (the highest non-warranty voiding voltage).

hey chumpman,

my voltages are 2.63, 2.77 and 2.9 do you think i can get my ram up to 420-425 without a problem. i'm sure at that speed i'd have to up the Vdimm to 2.9. i've been waiting all this week for my new psu before i uped the fsb any more.

Yep, and if you get lucky you can run it @ 3500 speeds..

At least my hyper x runs 220 FSB stable...

my barton's at 2.36 and it eats 2400s for breakfast in sandra 2003

Sandra is nothing but a theoretical benchmark, i would use PcMark as a better source.

And yes you could overvoltage your ram, but I don't like to overvoltage parts anymore than I have to. My cpu is overvoltaged at all and I have a par overclock for an 1800.

If I were you, I'd try 210 at 2.77 first. Run Memtest86, and if it passes all the loops, there isn't a real need to up to 2.9V. Of course if it does fail a loop, no reason not to go ahead and up it.

why is everyone so paranoid about upping the voltages a little!!!

were talking like 100 - 300 MILLIVOLTS

EE degree = not stupid

i think i'll leave it at 2.9....i like my components a lil toasty!!

It doesn't matter if it is just a few millivolts. If you know anything about electronics, resistance, amps, voltage, and power, then you know that if the manufacturer designed it to run at that voltage, you probably should. Yeah, you maybe able to get away with a little, but even with good cooling eventually a part is gonna crap out. That and it puts a lot more stress on the parts.

well if you know anything about electronics, then youd know that the manufacturer designs the component to run a little higher and lower than the specified voltage or what ever other parameter it may be.

i'm really not thinking that 150mv is going to do any serious harm. if at best i knocked a few years off the cpu. big deal

as long as your temps aren't going above 50c then your fine. your cpu probably doesn't even notice your ocing it. hehe

common someone with an EE degree...you gotta agree with this!! right???

hey drewdogg

did you ever have a issue with your mobo hanging up at the part where it says verifying DMI pool data???

i'd be able to overclock more but every time i turn off my computer and go to start it again it hangs up there.

I have Kingston Hyper-X on my Soltek NF2 board with my XP2500+

setup runs immaculate.... not a hiccup.

i've gotten that when i try to push really high...like 2.6ghz or 228-230fsb. i usually have to reset and ease up a little.

PC Mark is nothing but a theoretical benchmark :) If you think of it that way, all benchmarks are theoretical.
