I have some g.skill memory and there are issues using it with my MSI P67A-G45 as I cant adjust dram voltage. I know some of you have this board so what memory is working perfect and allows dram voltage and all others settings to be fully adjusted?

Which Ripjaws set do you have -- the 1.5V CAS9, the 1.6V CAS8 or the 1.6V CAS7? Are you trying to adjust voltage higher or lower, and why -- I thought we were all under the assumption that there were no significant performance gains to be had with RAM tweaking for SB?

not matter what I do the voltage stays at 1.488 on my MSI P67A-G45 mobo for the F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM ram (1.5 CAS8 1600 8 8 8 24). i had to update to the latest bios just to be able to get the right timings but it looks like there is still no fix for not being allowed to adjust voltage for some g.skill memory.

It doesn't make sense that the limitation with adjusting the VDIMM lies with the memory. I'm 99% sure that responsibility lies with the board. If the VDIMM is below spec, then RMA the board.

well g.skill acts like the issue is with their ram having issues with just that MSI board. again it took 2 BIOS updates to just be able to have my timings stick. and that was because g.skill was working with MSI to make sure that got done. they do not seem concerned about voltage not being able to be adjusted though. it is a heck of a lot easier to try some different ram then going through all the trouble of taking the mobo out. if some different ram does not fix it then sure I will know its the mobo only and not just some conflict with this particular ram.

Looking around online it does look like msi and g.skill are having compatability issues.

Have you at least got to play around with overclocking your chip? Or are you gonna wait for new ram?

stock cooling for now plus I am using an 8600gt so no point and yeah I want to get the ram/mobo issue taken care of first. I already talked to newegg and they said they will work with me no matter what and send me a prepaid shipping label for ram and or mobo and of course no restocking fee. I will just order some different ram on Monday and if that does not work then I will go ahead and order a different mobo. at this point I wish I could just send it all back and get an xbox360, lol.

I will probably start a new thread but if you have any P67 mobo suggestions under $150 let me know. I want to be prepared to order one quickly if the new ram does not fix the issue.

well I installed the MSI control center and it actually shows the correct dram voltage I set in BIOS. I tested it several times and each change I made in the BIOS was reflected in the control center.

oh and it will go above 1.488 in BIOS but is about .016 behind. in other words if I set it to 1.52 in BIOS it will show 1.52 in MSI control center but only 1.054 back in the BIOS.

now how can thier software program be more dependable than the actual numbers in the BIOS?

Man thats wierd with gskill...usually works on any board ive ever used...if you want 100% compatability you better look at the compatability chart from msi which has tested and approved ram, if you want 100% compatability...

everything is fine now since it turned out to be nothing but the bios reporting a slightly lower dram voltage than what I had set which is normal. I went back and looked at my E8500 setup info and it too reported lower dram voltage in BIOS than what was selected. 1.82 showed up as 1.08 for my old setup. in both new and old setups though the correct voltage selected shows in the software programs(easytune and control center).

the newest bios had fixed the issue with not being able to select 8 8 8 24 timing for my g.skill ram so technically no other issues remain for me. as for the MSI approved list its useless and only seems to show memory that works in general and not really with that board. they list 512mb and 1gb sticks that you know darn well were never tested on a new P67 board. they even list ram kits that come with 6 sticks which of course P67 only has 4 slots.
