What memory in IP35 Pro are you using?

Hi,

I have been running into issues lately, i.e. this week, where my system has been in reboot mode or crashing (not catching till I turned of automatic restart this morning after system image restore from this sunday) and I was running @3.6Ghz with a stock cooler (temps looked ok - mid 40's at idle). I have the E8400 on this board w/2Gb of Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800. I went with it vs Corsair Dominator for something different figuring Crucial is usually pretty good memory.

So having said that is anyone running Tracer 800 stock or overclocked on this board with the latest BIOS (official 16 release from 3/18/08 at taiwan ftp site)? I have a feeling the memory is flaky or perhaps the mobo is hosed. I had a stop message from crash this morning: Stop 0x00000000 (0x76456552,0x0000001c,0x00000000,0x805021AF).

Any ideas or suggestions? I am going into BIOS when I get home (memtest86+ has been running since I left this morning several hrs ago. I'll find out if it hits any errors. I may load up Orthos once I double check all main things are at default/auto settings before running Orthos.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

I've been having a similar problem recently on my IP35-E. I'm also using Crucial Ballistix, so it may be the cause of our troubles.

BTW, I'm using an E2200@3.0Ghz

Well I came home to >1000 errors in test #4 of memtest86+ so I pulled the 2nd DIMM out and am re-running it on the one in slot #0 and will see if it passes overnight. If it does, I'll run the other all day tomorrow in the hopes that it fails (or the one under test does...hopefully it's only one of the two, it both I'll toss them and get Dominators instead....).

okay what u should do next is... take out your memory, and CMOS battery and unplug your PSU for a few minutes (the longer the better.) then put everything back with only 1 x 1gb of ram. load your optimized defaults in bios, and manually set your RAM voltage and settings. boot up with Memtest86+ v2.01 and try again for at least 12 hours. you should get around 50-60 passes. if its a pass then try your other stick of ram in another slot and run the same thing. lastly, do both for 24 hours (you double the time bc u want the same test with double the ram.)

if u pass all that above, do a FRESH FORMAT AND WINDOWS install. install only your very basic drivers and OCCT. run the 2 hour RAM test. after u pass that u are pretty much good and u can continue with ur own stability testing.

2x1 gb ballistix pc8500. I had one stick fail last year and had to rma the pair. Fortunately it was with newegg and took about a week from when I sent them out to when the replacements arrived. 🙂

IP-35 (4 x 1GB) Ballistix PC2-6400 @ 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v @ 900 MHz
IP-35 Pro (4 x 1GB) Ballistix PC2-8000 @ 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v @ 850 MHz

No issues in nearly a year.....

I got some Dominators 2x2 after having my ballistic give problems running above 860 speed. These Dominator 1066 do better but then they should go to 1066 and I can only run my 8400 at 460 so its at 1:1 running at 920. I tried running the Doninators 4:5 at 460fsb but they would not run at that not sure why yet. My 6400 Ballistic 4x1 are retired........

Running a IP35-E at 3.08 GHz, 440 FSB. Been running for a year with 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 modules. Got in on the recent Crucial sale for 2 more of these modules. Put them in last night, got the board to boot into the operating system once where it promptly crashed. Never could get the board to boot again. Did the CMOS reset, ran it at 266 FSB etc etc. Memory voltage at 2.2V as spec.

Took the 2 new modules out and am back at 3.08GHz just like before.

These new modules although they have the same Crucial stock number are single-sided high density and the Abit board doesn't like it. Batch number is 97432. Go read up on all the problems with that batch at Newegg. Wish I had:disgust:

It's the D9GMH chips. They HAVE been frying and erroring out (i.e. dead sticks) on various boards including the IP35-Pro. I have an IP-35Pro and have gone through 3 sets of G.Skill HZ PC2-6400 kits. Running at the standard 2.1v at 4-4-4-12 as they are rated at DDR2-800. No overclocking and they still die within months.

My solution was to drop the D9 IC in favor of something different. I went with the 4GB kit model number F2-6400CL5D-4GPQ which runs 1.8v DDR2-800 5-5-5-15. Slightly looser timings, but lower voltage for much better longevity. Cooler running as well.

If you search over at xtremesystems they have numerous reports and even a multihundred page thread about people who's D9 based memory is dead or has died. It seems to be a trend with this particular IC.
