A few days ago, I posted this message here on this forum:

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=27&threadid=375690

and have been very unsuccessful in getting my computer working. I called Tech Support at the company I ordered the processor and motherboard from and asked them about this problem Im having. They told me its most likely a problem with the Micron memory Im using. What kind of memory do you guys use that can get your Abit KT7A-Raid motherboard to work?

Do you guys agree that the memory could be a reason why Im having the problem I am?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Well, I've got a stick of generic 64MB PC133 (whatever it is Mwave sells) and two Micron 64MB PC133 sticks on mine, no problem at 133, CAS2, 4-way interleave, yada yada.

Actually I had a problem with Micron RAM too - but only when overclocking at 133FSB - it would still boot up but I'd get errors now and then - set it to 100FSB or 100FSB +33 and it was fine though.

Are you talking about just getting the thing to boot at standard settings?

Yah, Ive been trying to boot it at standard settings. Ive tried putting the memory in all three slots. That other thread has a better description of what Ive tried.

You originally said there are absolutely no beeps from the motherboard about the memory, not even output to the monitor. That sounds like a dead board to me, even no CPU produces an error! Either RMA it to Abit like everyone else (sadly) had to, or hope that the company you bought from will exchange.

Good luck either way.

So apparently this board has no problems with Micron memory? The tech support guy I spoke too said that Crucial and Micron memory are the same, and owned by the same company. Is this true?

I think the Tech guy just didnt know what he was talking about, and said that the board produces no beeps instead of taking the time to help me figure out the problem.

Should I send the board to Abit, or send it to the company I purchased it from?

I'm running 2 sticks of PC133 Micron RAM in my KT7A - I'd say send the board back to the shop where u bought it from at their cost!

You paid for goods which are suitable for a purpose - which in your instance does not appear to be the situation?

Do you have any other RAM to test it out with?

If not - just phone them up anyway - and tell them you tried different RAM and it's a no go!

If they give you crap about not running with "Micron" RAM I'm sure we can all send them an e-mail to stick that theory up their ill informed ar$eholes!

Poor Davarino,

it's gonna cost ya to send the board to abit and expect RMA. instead, send the board to whichever vendor you purchased it from. I have successfully used Infineon memory, bought from www.memman.com I heard that Crucial modules work great too. Good luck.

I'm running fine with the Micron ram at 933Mhz now - one of my sticks was dodgy - nothing to do with the board ;)

I'm running 3 128mb sticks of Mushkin Mosel Rev2 @ 150mhz 2-2-2 with all memory tweaks on. The Abit Athlon boards really seem to work well with Mosel based dimms.
