I've seen the question here already, but I just wanted to ask again for my own circumstances and because I'm just saturated with so much info and so many choices....
I've got an A64 3200/939 and a Neo2 Platinum on the way. I primarily play games and work with PhotoShop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I also do audio/midi work. What would you recommend for my choice of memory? I would like to spend less than $200 because I need a couple other things along the upgrade path (HD mainly). But, if you feel strongly about faster, more expensive ram then please let me know. I've seen posts here that said AMD does fine with Value Select type ram and I've also seen many that stress more expensive ram. I am interested in overclocking but not extremely so. I'm an OC noob.
So, there it is. I look forward to your expert opinions. Thanks in advance.

Well I am not too sure on the "expert opinion," but the Corsair Value Select (1GB) is probably your best bet. It mildly overclocks well and is excellent for gaming and the 2D work you like to do. Plus, you will save a heck of a lot of money (about 100 bucks) as compared to an "extreme" overclockable RAM.

unless you want to run your memory at 1:1 speeds, you do not need very expensive ram from what some of the best overclockers are reporting...ie Duvie, Zebo etc

I was going to buy OCZ pc3200 plat rev2 ram but decided to see how my 2x512 kingston valuram does first...I will run the ram at 133 or 166 instead of 200 and see how well things go..from all accounts the speed benefits from low latency and 1:1 speeds are not worth the money IMHO...I personally will never see the difference

check in cpu/processors forum

BTW I just purchased A64 3200 and Neo 2 plat from mwave...should be here tomorrow

I am using Corsair Value Select with that combo with good results.

Mine with go 1:1 to about 230mhz at stock timings but you need to loosen them up some for max stability.

cool. I see that setup a lot here. Let me know how it works out for you. btw, I'm leaning toward Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2PT...kind of a compromise between value select and extra low latency.
What do you think?

No. Any kind of CL2 is unnecessary for stock speeds or a small overclock. As said before, pick up some Value Select CL2.5 and be done with it--by no means is it cheap RAM in the sense of poor quality. Don't fret if you have to run a divider either--the memory controller still improves with clockspeed even if the RAM is run asynchronously.

OK, sounds good to me. How about between these:

Choice #1 about 150 taxed and shipped

or
Choice #2 about 155 taxed and shipped

or how about this one
Choice #3 175 after discount and tax

And, as I was afraid, the more I read through these forums the more tempted I am to overclock. Sounds challenging and fun. So maybe choice #3 is the compromise. Think I can get 10 to 15 % overclock from this type of ram?

Choice number one is the best. Can even overclock to around 220 which is perfect for 3200. 260 x 10 = 2600mhz use 166 memsetting =215mhz memory.

Choice two is'nt bad..similar but more money and not half the CS that Mushkin has.

Choice three is OK, comes with winbond CH-5 modules which are hit or miss above 215mhz but will allow tight timings...little high priced if you ask me...

If you become "seriously" interested in OCing, then check out the PDP Systems Patriot XBL Memory. It uses the Samsung TCCD chips and is supposed to be as good if not better than other higher priced "enthusiast" memory.

i got the same ram for my 2500+ OC to 3200+ on epox 8rdaI3. works fine and stablely.

Are you running the ram in this case asynchronously? Would you suggest corsair xms series of ram if you wanted a bigger oc with more stability than with the mushkin ram?

What does it mean to "loosen up" a stick of ram? Also what is the best way to test your sticks to be sure they don't have any problems? (another noobie)
